As we welcome the summer months, June so far has been another busy and exciting time at Harrogate Skills for Living, with learners taking part in a wide range of activities, developing skills, building confidence, and having lots of fun along the way.
This month, we were proud to support Learning Disability Awareness Week, celebrating the talents, achievements, and contributions of people with learning disabilities. It was a fantastic opportunity to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and recognise the importance of creating communities where everyone can thrive.
Our learners at the Day Centre have been working hard in our gym and fitness sessions, improving their health and wellbeing while enjoying a variety of exercises tailored to their individual goals and abilities. The enthusiasm and determination shown by everyone has been inspiring to see with another record of personal bests achieved!
Creativity has also been flourishing throughout May and June. Learners have produced some fantastic artwork, including colourful animal collages, eye-catching ice cream and burger creations, beautiful sea shell windchimes, and a range of much-loved Disney characters. The imagination and attention to detail displayed in each piece has been truly impressive.
Our Baking Enterprise group has been busy in the kitchen, cooking up a selection of delicious treats. Popular bakes this month included jam shortbread and chocolate orange cupcakes, which were enjoyed by many and showcased the learners' growing baking skills and teamwork.
The Newsletter Group has worked hard to produce a bumper-packed edition of Believe and Achieve. Filled with news, stories, achievements, and updates from across the service, the latest edition highlights just how much has been happening and celebrates the successes of our learners.
Meanwhile, the Wednesday Wanderers have continued to get out and about exploring the local area. Despite having to dodge a few rain showers along the way, their adventures have been full of laughter, fresh air, and opportunities to connect with the community.
We also have our latest editions of our Briardene and Brackenley newsletters, where you can find out what residents have been up to throughout spring!
We look forward to sharing more achievements and adventures with you soon - especially our annual day centre summer trip to the seaside and our family and friends BBQ in July!
