Supporting Young People Through the Transition Years: Our New HS4L Resource Hub

We are excited to share that Harrogate Skills for Living (HS4L) has successfully secured funding to support young people with learning disabilities and/or autism as they navigate the important transition years (ages 15–25). This project is designed for all young people in the Harrogate and rural area, as well as their parents and supporters.

Why We Created This Resource

Transition is a challenging time for any young person. For those with a learning disability and/or autism, the journey can be even more complex. Making decisions about health, daily life, education, employment, finances, and legal matters often depends on finding the right information at the right time.

Too often, that information is scattered across multiple organisations and websites — creating stress at a time when clarity is most needed. HS4L wants to change that.

What We Hope This Project Achieves

Our goal is simple: to bring together key transition information into one central, easy-to-access place.

The new HS4L transition resource has been designed to support young people and their families across four core areas:

Health & Wellbeing

Education, Training & Employment

Daily Living Skills

Financial & Legal Matters

By gathering everything in one location, we hope to make planning for adulthood clearer, smoother, and more empowering.

Who This Resource Is For

This project is for any young person with a learning disability and/or autism, whether they are preparing for future transitions or are already moving through these important years. The transition from children's services to adult services can be a tricky one to navigate and we are hoping to help as many people as we can.

Parents, carers, teachers, and other professionals will also find it a valuable tool in supporting young people with confidence and direction.

How to Use the New Transition Hub

All information can be accessed through a central link on the HS4L website or click here, making it easy to explore at your own pace. If you need more personalised support, Ruth McQuire, our Transitions and Outcomes Manager, is available to help — either by email or in person.

Keeping the Information Up to Date

The world of services, opportunities, and support in our region is constantly changing. We are committed to keeping these pages as accurate and current as possible, even as the local landscape evolves. This is a challenge we’re tackling head-on!

We’d Love Your Feedback

We’ve worked closely with many local organisations and charities to gather accurate information, and we continue to recommend reading the key national guides linked on our site — including North Yorkshire’s Preparation for Adulthood guidance.

Your insight is incredibly valuable.
If you spot missing opportunities, outdated details, or anything that could be improved, please let us know.
