A busy year so far for Skills Bridge students!

21 May 2024

Our Skills Bridge learners have had a very busy year so far with lots of achievements and memorable occasions. Now we are over half way through the academic year we thought it would be the perfect time to share with you what our learners have been getting up to.

Skills bridge students have been very busy in work placements and have been gaining valuable work skills and experience. We have been lucky to have new work placements available to our learners at Harrogate Hospital, Hemingways and Rudding Park Hotel and we also started working with the Harrogate Homeless Project volunteering, which has been a great experience for all involved.

We have also launched a new travel training programme which teaches our learners valuable everyday skills for travelling in the community but also helps them build their confidence to travel independently. Learners also had a fantastic opportunity to hold a question and answer session with the local MP and a visit from Police as part of PSHE.

Students have been taking part in co-production meetings to have their say on what a better life looks like along with some parents and carers in the local community. They have also been very involved in increasing our social calendars with lots of exciting events over the last few months including, two bowling trips, a visit to pop world night club in Leeds, cinema, McDonald’s and local pub visits. It is great to see so many friendships forming and students confidence growing over their time at Skills Bridge.

We have lots planned for the rest of the year and students have already started organising their end of year residential trip as part of their student council meetings. We cant wait to come back and share more updates and photos with you!
