What else do we like that comes from deepest darkest Peru?

26 October 2020

In 2018 we started running a 12 month supported employment program where students have the chance to work for an organisation with additional classroom sessions designed to enhance the skills needed to survive in employment.

We realised early on that many of our students are not ready for this without significant support and time invested in developing their confidence and skills. Bearing this in mind we thought about how we could provide the right kind of environment in both a safe and real way. This is when we hit on the idea of a social enterprise – one that makes chocolate.

We can imagine Paddington Bear sat here with us now at the HS4LC social enterprise in Harrogate. He may be sitting socially distanced from us but that wouldn’t stop him from being able to tell one of his stories about his homeland of Peru.

We all understand how much this little bear loves marmalade but did you know that Peruvian chocolate is one of the best in the world?

Chocolate has been part of life in Peru for centuries, linked to all kinds of cures and remedies. There’s also nothing more comforting than the taste of cocoa!

Our new social enterprise....The Harrogate Chocolate Factory uses the purest Peruvian Criollo cacao beans to make its 70% dark chocolate bar! As we become ever more health conscious, it’s good to know that cocoa is rich in plant chemicals called flavonoids that are thought to help protect your heart.

You can order you Harrogate Chocolate Factory chocolate bars by phone now on 01423 593719. Website and online orders will be available very soon!

We look forward to keeping you up to date with our new social enterprise but in the mean time make sure you follow us on facebook page to how us your support.
