Dignity Action at Brackenley!

17 February 2020

February is the month we celebrate Dignity Action Day! Dignity Action Day raises awareness and aims to ensure people who use care services are treated as individuals and are given choice, control and a sense of purpose in their daily lives.

Dignity Action Day is brought to you by The Dignity in Care campaign which core values are about having dignity in our hearts minds and actions, changing the culture of care services and placing a greater emphasis on improving the quality of care and the experience of citizens using services including NHS hospitals, community services, care homes and home support services.

This weekend the residents at HS4LC's Brackenley Care Home made Valentines day biscuits and took part in a dignity activity.

Once the residents had finished the biscuit making and everyone had finished off their favourite part...eating them! Saffron a Senior Carer at Brackenley read out a poem on the dignity tree and explained to the residents what dignity was. Everyone was very interested and some residents wanted to know more. Once the residents had a clearer understanding of what dignity was, they wrote in love hearts about 'what they feel is best about our care' and then they stuck them to the Brackenley dignity tree display in the hallway!

Saffron said “Dignity to us as a company is really important. We always encourage our resident’s rights to their independence and their own space and values. It is important we constantly apply this in our everyday work so we encourage the people we look after that their opinions and values are respected and do matter!”
